Itinerary : Antananarivo – Sambava – Marojejy National Park – Sambava – Antananarivo

  Day 1. ANTANANARIVO

Depending on your booking date, a warm reception and a nice meeting will be reserved for you at Antananarivo airport. Transfer to your hotel to prepare for the next day’s adventure!

  Day 2. ANTANANARIVO – SAMBAVA

Depending on the domestic flight schedule, transfer to the airport for a flight to Sambava.

Arrival at destination, transfer to your hotel and rest of the day free with a short city tour of Sambava.

  Day 3. SAMBAVA – MANDENA – MANTELLA CAMP

Departure around 7am by car to reach the reception office in Manantenina, then direction to Mandena village where the adventure in the Marojejy National Park begins, for a walk of about 4 hours to reach the day camp. Along the way, you will discover the part of the low altitude primary rainforests and you will have the opportunity to meet reptile and amphibian species (such as Mantella laevigata, boophis, Sanzinia…), lemur species (bamboo lemurs, Eleumur albifrons), bird species (the Blue Coua, the Eurycera prevost…).

Along the way, you will take a short break in a natural swimming pool at a waterfall edge. You will also have the advantage of visiting the beautiful Humbert waterfall.

Night at Mantella Camp.

  Day 4. MANTELLA CAMP – MAROJEJYA CAMP – SIMPONA CAMP

You will have the opportunity to admire the border between the low altitude forest and the high altitude forest. Along the way the passage through the lowland forest allows you to find Brookesia Karchei and endemic palm species (Marojejya insignis). Beautiful granite cliffs and mountains views covered with the intense green of the forests are adored by visitors to Marojejya Camp. After a short break, we continue the climb to Camp Simpona. You will also have the chance to find the Silky Sifaka (Simpona), the extremely white fur-covered lemur species, endemic to this park from which the tour takes its name.

  Day 5. SIMPONA CAMP – MAROJEJY SUMMIT – SIMPONA CAMP – MAROJEJYA CAMP

Very early breakfast around 4.30 am and departure to the summit at 5 am. This way, going up to the summit (ascent from 1250 to 2132m altitude), crosses wet forest and clouds to reach the open, high altitude thicket landscapes dominating the whole region. From this particularly unique site, you will have at a glance thousands of square kilometres breathtaking view that overlook the landscape as far as the Indian Ocean. After a few hours of visiting and escaping into a highly paradisiacal world, resume the adventure to return to Simpona Camp for lunch.

After lunch descent to Marojejya Camp.

  Day 6. MAROJEJYA CAMP – MANTELLA CAMP

In the mid-altitude forest 1km from Marojejya Camp, an old fossil of the famous Takthajania perrieri, a plant from the dinosaurs’ time discovered 120 million years ago, is to be discovered.  

After lunch, descent to the Mantella camp, (Possibility to visit the waterfall of Mr. Humbert if this was not done the first day in the park).

  Day 7. MANTELLA CAMP – PARK EXIT – SAMBAVA

After adventure days and a good night’s, a short swim at the bottom of the Mantella camp.

Lunch at the camp (around 11.15am) and preparation for the descent to the park exit.

Pick up the car in Mandena village, transfer to Sambava.

  Day 8. SAMBAVA – BEMARIVO RIVER – SAMBAVA

Breakfast around 7.30 am. Departure at 8 am to Nosiarina village. Visit of a plantation at the cooperative “Vola Maintso”. (vanilla, cocoa, cloves, green pepper and other products from the SAVA region).

Descent of the Bemarivo river on flat-bottomed metal pirogues. Discover the life of the local people in a calm and relaxing atmosphere.

Picnic lunch on the pirogue. Continuation of the descent to the mainland.

Travel through the coconut grove area of Soavoanio to reach Sambava and short crossing by pirogue to Sambava.

  Day 9. SAMBAVA – ANTANANARIVO

Depending on the domestic flight schedule, possible short city tour. Then, transfer to the airport for Antananarivo.

And international return flight.
